Wings Get Boost from Affiliate in Gritty Stefan Fournier

KALAMAZOO, MI- The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-assigned forward Stefan Fournier to the Kalamazoo Wings, the team announced Friday. The Wings also announced that forward Justin Breton has been traded to the Missouri Mavericks.

Fournier, 24, comes to Kalamazoo after spending a majority of the season with the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League. During 29 games with Tucson, the 6-foot-3, 225 pound forward tallied four goals in 29 games and added 95 penalty minutes. The gritty forward was traded to Syracuse at the end of February and appeared in one game with the Crunch before his assignment to Kalamazoo.

The native of Dorval, Quebec, has appeared in 18 career ECHL games with Wheeling and Brampton and has earned six points and 41 penalty minutes. In 140 career games at the American Hockey League level with Syracuse, Tucson, Springfield, St. John's, and Hamilton, Fournier has logged 11 goals, 12 assists, and 340 penalty minutes.

Before turning pro, Fournier spent five years in the QMJHL with Acadie-Bathurst, Lewiston, Victoriaville and Halifax. His most productive season was in 2012-13, in which he registered 72 points (35 goals, 37 assists) in 66 games. During the postseason, Fournier, the captain of the Mooseheads, led the QMJHL in goals with 16 and helped lead his club on their way to raising trophies as the league champions and Memorial Cup champions. In total, he tallied 212 career points at the junior level in 289 games.

Fournier will wear number 16 and likely make his debut tonight against Toledo.

In a separate transaction, forward Justin Breton has been traded to the Missouri Mavericks for future considerations.

Breton, 27, was traded to Kalamazoo from the Alaska Aces in January, and skated in 14 games with the Wings, registering three points (two goals, one assist). The third-year pro led the Aces in goals last season with 23.
