Mallards Sign Emergency Backup Netminder Chiasson

MOLINE, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards have signed Michael Chiasson as an emergency backup goaltender, the Mallards announced today.

Chiasson, 31, played three seasons at Acadia University in Nova Scotia between 2008 and 2011. The 6-foot, 180-pound Halifax, Nova Scotia, native went 14-9-0 in 26 career games with the Axemen while posting a 3.08 goals against average and a point .886 save percentage. In 2010-11, Chiasson completed his university career by going 2-2-0 in five games with a 3.46 goals against average and a .887 save percentage.

Prior to his time at Acadia, Chiasson suited up for the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for two seasons between 2005 and 2007.

The Mallards return to action on the road tomorrow night against the Wheeling Nailers. The Mallards next play on home ice next Wednesday night against the Kalamazoo Wings. That game and all Mallards Wednesday night home games face off at the special early start time of 6:35 p.m.
