Aberdeen Wings News Release
On a night that saw the Aberdeen Wings defeat the Minnesota Wilderness 2-1 inside the Odde Ice Center, something just as special was going on. The Aberdeen Wings community of fans graciously stepped up to help raise funds for the Aberdeen Area Humane Society. Saturday night, during the first intermission, shelter manager Stacey Franks introduced a number of the dogs from the organization, some of which found new homes at the game.
Following the game, each Wings player returned to the ice donning his special jersey, recognizing the Aberdeen Area Humane Society. Thanks to the support of Val Jark from Jark/Worlie Auction Services, each special jersey was auctioned off to the over 1,300 fans in attendance. The auction began with Wings owner Greg Odde addressing the crowd about the organization's annual efforts to help support local area charities and organizations that enrich the community. Wings head coach Francis Anzalone also spoke to the crowd expressing his gratitude to the fans' support of these organizations.
23 special jerseys were auctioned off to the crowd, raising a total of $23,200 that evening. Shelter manager Stacey Franks was excited about the crowd's involvement and support.
Beginning next Wednesday, six additional special jerseys will be on auction available through the Aberdeen Wings website [www.AberdeenWings.com] with all proceeds going to the Aberdeen Area Humane Society. Fans will be able to place bids via email, with current top bids updated daily. The auction will run from Wednesday, November 26th through Saturday, December 20th when the top bids will be announced at the home game vs. the Bismarck Bobcats.
Each year, the Aberdeen Wings organization has held a special jersey auction to raise funds for area organizations such as Safe Harbor, military families, Breast Cancer Awareness, and the Aberdeen Youth Hockey Association. The Aberdeen Wings staff, coaches, and players thank the generosity of the Wings community of fans.
