Wings Climb in af2 Coaches Poll

CHICAGO - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers have maintained the No. 1 ranking of the Weekly Coaches Poll for a record eighth straight week, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton collected 462 of a possible 464 points and 28-of-30 first place votes in securing the top position. The Pioneers remained undefeated in 2007 at 9-0 after a 70-62 Week 11 win at No. 2 South Georgia in a battle of the two top-ranked teams in the league. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's current eight-week presence at the top of the Coaches Poll surpassed the seven-week run at No. 1 that the Florida Firecats enjoyed in 2005. The BattleWings will play the Pioneers in the next-to-last game of the 2007 af2 regular season.

South Georgia (7-3, 347 points) slipped three spots this week to No. 5 in light of the loss to the Pioneers. Taking over the No. 2 position is the Tulsa Talons (9-1, 408 points, 2 first place votes), who fought for a 61-48 road win Saturday at Corpus Christi. Rio Grande Valley (8-1, 399 points) moved up one spot to No. 3 after a convincing 71-7 home win against Texas. The Dorados' only loss of the season came at home at the hands fo the BattleWings. rio Grande Valley will visit CenturyTel Cneter on July 14th. Bossier-Shreveport (8-2, 367 points) also improved one position this week to No. 4 overall on the strength of the Battle Wings second straight road win at Alabama (now #16), 49-32.

The BattleWings have three home games remaining in the 2007 regular season: this Saturday against Corpus Christi, then rematches with the #7 Arkansas Twisters on July 7th, followed by the showdown with RGV on July 14th. The BattleWings' two losses this season have come against the #7 Arkansas and #5 South Georgia.

Lucky 7's: #7 Arkansas plays in Bossier CIty at 7:00pm on 7-7-07. It's the 7th home game of the BattleWings' 7th season.
