Joe Norris: Norris came to the BattleWings from the Austin Wranglers of the AFL where he served as the Defensive Coordinator and Line Coach. Norris served as head coach for the Tulsa Talons (af2) and led them to the playoffs in their inaugural season with an offense that averaged 52.7 points per game and a defense that led the league with 33 interceptions
Norris spent time in the NFL with the New England Patriots in 1984 and 1985. He played for the Chicago Bears in 1987 and 1988. Norris is married with two sons.
SERIES MEETING: The Battlewings exploded for 40 second half points to cement a 62-27 win over the Sharks. The Battlewings opened the scoring when Quincy Carter passed six yards to Marc Bacote for a 6-0 lead with 3:22 remaining in the first quarter, and they never trailed. Carter touchdown tosses to Manwell Talbert and PJ Winston, combined with a 23 yard Brian Hazelwood field goal made the score 22-0 before the Sharks were able to find the end zone. It was 22-7 at the half. The Sharks closed to within eight points, 22-14, at the start of the second half. But Carter responded with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Talbert to create a little cushion at 28-14. Schule ran for another score and Jamaal Perry caught two fourth quarter touchdown passes to round out the scoring. Carter completed 15 of 25 pass attempts for 235 yards and six touchdowns. Perry caught five passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns.

DROPBACK: Corpus Christi Sharks For the second straight week a Corpus Christi bid to upset an af2 front runner fell just short as they dropped 61-48 decision to the Tulsa Talons. The Sharks, who had not played at home in almost a month, showed their fans they are dramatically improved team. Ivory McCann electrified the crowd as he took the opening kickoff 57 yards for a touchdown (a yard short of tying an af2 record). The first half featured plenty of scoring and would see the two teams go to the half tied at 34. Brandon Hussey & Steve Smith each had two touchdowns on the night; Smith finished with 5 catches for 36 yards and Hussey had 4 receptions good for 84 yards. An inspired Sharks defense held the Talons scoreless in the 3rd quarter and went to the 4th quarter with a 48-40 lead. Tulsa tied the game early in the fourth and then took the lead as the Talons Jermaine Hope stepped in front of a John De Los Santos pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown. Corpus Christi never got back in the grove after that and saw their hopes fade away as they were out scored 16-0 in the last 15 minutes of the game.
FORWARD MOTION: The Sharks are on a 3 week run of playing teams rated in the top 5 of af2 coaches poll. (SG,TULSA,Bossier-Shrev)
TEAM NOTES/TRENDS:
The Sharks bright spot has been the play of William Heyward who is showing his worth as a top defensive-back. (6 INTS total) Estus Hood leads team in sacks with 3.
