Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS (July 31, 2015) - With a recent rash of injuries affecting their depth, the Wichita Wingnuts addressed two needs with the addition of pitcher and position player Tyler Heil (HI-ull) on Friday. The 27-year old will join the club as they finish up the first series in a three-city East Coast trip on Friday evening in New Jersey.

Heil most recently suited up for both the Ottawa Champions and Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am League earlier this season. With the two clubs he combined to go 1-9 at the plate and allowed two runs in 3.1 innings on the mound.

The native of Reno, Nevada began his professional career with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League in 2010 as only a position player. In his rookie year he hit .286 with three home runs, 33 RBI, and 15 stolen bases. He also spent the next season with the Grizzlies and batted at a .225 clip while also making five appearances on the mound.

Heil began his college career with two years at the College of San Mateo. He hit a combined .331 with 27 home runs in two seasons at the school. The versatile 6'3 athlete transferred to San Jose State University for his final two seasons of eligibility. Heil received his first collegiate opportunity as a pitcher in 2009. He made 10 appearances, three of them as a starter, and also batted in 31 games.

In his career he has played second base, third base, and shortstop.
