St. Paul Saints News Release

GARY, IN - The St. Paul Saints continue to take an eraser to their record book adding a few more impressive feats on Friday night at U.S. Steel Yard. They tied a franchise record for largest margin of victory, 16, with an 18-2 win over the Gary SouthShore Railcats. In the process they kept their streak alive of not losing a series improving to 17-0-2, Vinny DiFazio tied an American Association and franchise record with five runs scored and for the first time in franchise history the Saints won 20 games in July and have two 20 win months. With all of that they improved to 49-16 and maintained an 18.5 game lead in the North Division.

All nine starters collected at least one hit with three different players, DiFazio, Willie Argo and Ryan Lashley collecting four hits. DiFazio tied a career high with five RBI and his five runs tied a franchise record accomplished by Joe Bonfe on June 1, 2014 at New Jersey. Several American Association players have accomplished the feat according to the American Association record book. The Saints crushed three home runs in a ballpark not known for the longball with Angelo Songco hitting a two-run blast in the first, Lashley a solo homer in the second and DiFazio capping off his night with a two-run homer in the ninth.

The Saints scored in six of the nine innings including six in the seventh and 12 over the final three innings. The 18 runs and 20 hits were both season highs. The three through nine hitters all collected at least one RBI and Dan Kaczrowski extended his career high hitting streak to 14 games going 2-5 with an RBI.

The Saints finished the month of July 20-8, the second best winning percentage in that month ever and the first time they recorded 20 wins in July. They also went 20-7 in June making it the first season in franchise history they have had two 20 win months. Prior to this season they had just one 20 win month ever, that was in June, 2003.

The 16 run victory is the fifth time in franchise history they beat a team by that margin, the last time was a 16-0 victory at Fargo-Moorhead on August 8, 2013.

Saints pitcher Dustin Crenshaw was the forgotten man going 6.0 innings against his former team allowing one unearned run on eight hits while walking one and striking out two to become the first American Association pitcher to 11 wins, improving to 11-1.

The Saints continue their six game roadtrip with a three game series against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. The Saints send LHP Kramer Sneed (9-2, 2.36) against RedHawks RHP Taylor Stanton (3-1, 3.94). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
