Wichita Wingnuts News Release
GARY, IN- The Wichita Wingnuts (3-3) lost 2-1 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats (4-2) at U.S. Steel Yard on Tuesday afternoon.
The RailCats scored what proved to be the decisive runs on a controversial play in the bottom of the fourth inning. With runners on first and second and two outs, Drew Martinez hit a soft flyball to left field. Wingunts' left fielder Colt Loehrs appeared to make a diving catch as he slid across the outfield grass, but the play was ruled a trap. Craig Maddox and Brian Kolb scored on the play to give the RailCats a 2-1 lead.
Three RailCats' relievers preserved the one-run advantage after starter Ari Ronick pitched the first six innings. Marco Gonzalez earned the save with a perfect top of the ninth.
C.J. Ziegler accounted for Wichita's lone run with a solo homer to deep left-center in the top of the fourth.
Jon Link took a tough loss for Wichita, allowing two earned runs on six hits in six innings. Link walked two and struck out four.
Ronick earned the win, allowing one earned run on four hits in six frames. Ronick walked two and struck out four.
