
Windsor Spitfires Defeat Niagara IceDogs 5-2 in Niagara

With tonight's win, the CHL's #3 ranked team stills lead the OHL with 89 points on the strength of a 42-8-0-5 record and sweeps the season series two games to none against Niagara
Goaltender Philipp Grubauer, the reigning OHL goaltender of the month for January, improves his record to 8-0-0-1 with the Spitfires since joining the team as he stopped 19 of 21 shots tonight. He also has a 2.10 goals against average and .921 save percentage in ten games with the Spits. Grubauer is also ranked sixth in the OHL with a .915 save percentage and tenth in the OHL with a 2.88 goals against average
Defenseman Ryan Ellis scores one goal and adds one assist tonight and was selected as the game's first star, extending his point streak and assist streak to seven consecutive games and is tied for seventh amongst all OHL defencemen with 43 points in 37 games. He is also tied for eighth in the OHL with a +31 plus-minus rating
Forward Justin Shugg scores his 30th goal of the season as scored the game winning goal for the Spits at 8:32 of the second period. Shugg has scored goals in each of his past five games for Windsor. With his 30th goal, Shugg joins Taylor Hall and Adam Henrique as the only Spitfires to have scored 30 goals to this point in the season. Shugg is tied for second in the OHL with seven game winning goals and also for 15th in league scoring with teammates Adam Henrique, Greg Nemisz and Eric Wellwood at 60 points. Shugg is also tied for eighth in the OHL for goals with teammate Adam Henrique. The Spitfires now have five 60 point scorers this season as Taylor Hall has 83 points this season.
Forward Taylor Hall extended his point streak to a league high 17 consecutive games OHL this season. Hall has also a improved on his league high assist streak, which is now at 14 games as he had one assist in tonight's game. He has 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points during his 17 game point streak. He is ranked second overall in the OHL scoring race with 83 points in 46 games. Hall is also fifth in the OHL in goals scored with 34 and is tied for second in the OHL with 49 assists. He is also tied with teammate Ryan Ellis for fourth in the league with a +33 plus-minus rating
The Spitfires scored two powerplay goals in tonight's game on nine opportunities. Windsor leads the OHL in powerplay efficiency, operating at a 26.8% clip. They have scored at least one powerplay goal in 17 of their past 18 games and have scored two or more powerplay goals in each of their past five games
Windsor killed six penalties tonight and are ranked fourth in the league with a 84.3% penalty killing efficiency. They have not allowed a power play goal in 4 games and have killed 21 straight penalties, dating back to the Jan. 29th game against the London Knights.
Spitfires defenseman Cam Fowler missed tonight's game with the flu. The Spits are also without Dale Mitchell due to injury and Zack Kassian due to suspension
