Saginaw Spirit News Release
(Saginaw, MI) The first ever Saginaw Spirit Bowl-a-Thon was a huge success last Wednesday, helping to raise over $5,500 for charity. The proceeds went to benefit the Saginaw Spirit Charitable Foundation and The Connor's Autism Project/ The Great Lakes Bay Autism Center. The Saginaw Spirit Bowl-a-Thon was presented by Central Warehouse.
Spirit players were joined by more than 20 squads of 5 person bowling teams Wednesday night at the Crooked Creek Bowling Center. Fans also participated in 50-50 drawings and a silent auction to help the cause.
Assistant captain Jordan Hill was excited about the event and its impact on supporting the community. "It's great seeing these kids looking up to OHL players, just how I looked up to hockey players when I was younger. Tonight was a great success, and hopefully this will be an every year thing."
Fellow assistant captain Jordan Szwarz echoed Hill's thoughts. "The Bowl-a-Thon was lots of fun and we appreciate all of the support from the fans."
The Saginaw Spirit Charitable Foundation was one of the benefactors of the event. The Foundation was put in place by the Spirit hockey team to host events like the Bowl-a-Thon with the goal of raising money to support the Great Lakes Bay Area. The foundation donates cash, ticket and merchandise donations to over a thousand community organizations annually.
The Connor's Autism Project/ The Great Lakes Bay Autism Center is dedicated to creating awareness for Autism and the challenges faced by those caring for children with Autism. For more on the Connor's Autism Project, please visit www.connorsautismproject.org.
"Autism is a rapidly growing thing, with about one in every fifty boys being diagnosed with it. We encourage people to get a hold of us if they are interested in learning more about Autism," stated Connor's Autism Project organizer Pat Riffle. "Working with the Spirit has been great for us as they draw a big group of people, and I am very pleased and appreciative with the events turnout".
