Wilson Tobs Fall at Petersburg

PETERSBURG, V.A. - Wilson spotted the Petersburg Generals a five run, 8-3 lead before the Tobs came storming back only to have their comeback fall just short on Monday night at the Petersburg Sports Complex, falling to the Generals 11-7.

Wilson (4-8) took the lead in the third inning as the pushed across a pair of runs against Alex Caravella as Geoff Jimenez walked and stole second to begin the fram and score one batter later when Harry Slade put down a bunt that Caravella fired over the first basemen's head allowing Jimenez to score. Phillip Williams followed with a sacrifice fly two hitters later to give the Tobs a 3-2 advantage.

The Generals (5-6) regained the lead in the fourth inning as Casey Roche doubled home a pair of runs against Tyler Bolton (L, 1-2) and lift Petersburg to the 4-3 lead.

However, Petersburg was not done as they added four insurance runs in the sixth inning as the Tobs committed four errors in the frame helping the Generals expand on their lead.

Wilson loaded the bases in the eighth with no outs and was able to plate a four runs to close the gap to just a single run at 8-7 and put the tying run just 90 feet away with two outs but the Tobs could not score the tying run.

In the last of the eighth, the Generals pushed acorrs a couple insurance run with the big hit of the frame being a two-run home run off the bat of Ryan Parker as the Tobs fell on the road again, 11-7.

The Tobs are back at Historic Fleming Stadium Tuesday night as the Edenton Steamers make its first trip to Wilson where first pitch is slated for 7:05.

The Wilson Tobs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both the players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 930 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and CY Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
