June 11, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain) News Release

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced today that Wilmington's Aaron Preston was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while Asheboro's David Roseboom was honored as the Rawlings Pitcher of the Week for week two of action (June 4-June 10).

Preston, a redshirt-junior at Presbyterian College, batted .444 through seven starts for the Sharks on the week. His 12 hits were tied for most in the league on the week, with four of them being doubles (a league-best), and two more being a triple and a home run. Preston, who is from Goose Creek, S.C., tallied four RBIs and scored five runs. He also racked up a league-high 21 total bases, while finishing with the second-highest slugging percentage at .778, and tacking on a .531 on-base percentage and five stolen bases.

On the mound, Roseboom pitched a complete game against Florence on June 5, helping the Copperheads win 2-1, as he kept a perfect ERA and improved to 1-0 on the week. In nine innings of work, the 6-3, 215-pound sophomore lefty from USC-Upstate surrendered one unearned run on just two hits, while walking three and striking out seven. Even more impressive, however, is that opposing batters hit just .074 against him, while Roseboom sported a WHIP of 0.56 on the week.

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 930 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
