Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- Monday night's game didn't start off too pretty for the Owls, but by the end Forest City picked up its eighth win in its last ten games, beating the Gastonia Grizzlies 10-6. The Owls rallied back from deficits of 5-2 and 6-3, scoring the last seven runs against the Grizzlies. Mason McCullough came on in with two outs in the 8th inning and struck out Dale Clement with the tying run on second. McCullough would go on to strike out the side in the 9th, despite giving up an infield hit to earn his first save in his first appearance.

Forest got three runs apiece in the 7th and 8th innings to secure the victory, but it was the early runs that kept the game within striking distance. After Gastonia scored two unearned runs against Drake Thomason in the first, Nate Chong tied the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third. Ryan Welke also homered, a solo shot, for the Owls. That one off Grizzlies starter Dale Innes, brought Forest City back within two after Gastonia scored three more off Thomason in the 4th inning.

The Owls were plagued with defensive miscues all game. Forest City committed a team-high seven errors on the night, yielding three unearned runs in total. However, after chasing Innes in the 5th inning, the CPL's best offense made the most of its opportunities late.

Drew Reynolds doubled in Chong to start the 7th inning after Chong's leadoff single. Reynolds then came around to score on an infield single by Will Chandler to tie the game. After the Owls loaded the bases on another infield single and a walk, Chris Bossenberry came in and walked Dykota Spiess to score the go-ahead run.

In the 8th, Bossenberry ran into more trouble when he allowed a two-run double to Gunnar Heidt, who had come on to pinch run for Chandler in the 7th. Then, Heidt scored on an RBI single from Emilio Pagan to make it 10-6 Forest City. Carson Herndon pitched a scoreless 7th inning, stranding the bases loaded to earn the win for the Owls. Patrick Stanley took the loss for the Grizzlies, giving up all three runs in the 7th.

Forest City plays in Gastonia tomorrow night at 7:30 PM. The two teams finish their three-game series Wednesday night back at McNair Field.
