Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Weston Wilson reached base five times in Wednesday's ballgame and hit a go-ahead home in the top of the 10th inning to help the Nashville Sounds to a 7-1 victory over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
Despite striking first in the ballgame, the Jumbo Shrimp (34-32) were unable to score a run after the third inning, while Nashville (41-26) tallied 14 hits, including five in the six-run 10th frame.
Tied at 1-1 going to extras, Dustin Peterson began as the inherited runner at second base, and Zach Green was hit by a pitch to put two aboard. Wilson then ripped a three-run homer to right field off of Colton Hock (loss, 0-1) to put the Sounds ahead, 4-1. Daniel Robertson continued the rally with a double to right. He scored on a Payton Henry RBI single to center. Later in the inning, Tim Lopes and Matt Lipka each drove in a run to push the lead to 7-1.
Jacksonville inititally grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning. After loading the bases with one out, Brian Miller grounded into a fielder's choice RBI to score Brian Anderson, who had reached on a fielder's choice himself earlier in the inning following a Bryson Brigman walk.
Josh A. Smith made his first start back with Jacksonville since returning from the injured list. He retired nine of the first 10 batters he faced, and ultimately gave up just one run in 3.1 innings of work. The lone run came in the fourth inning when Peterson reached on a one-out double to end Smith's outing.
Wilson, who tallied four hits and a walk, drove home Peterson with an RBI single against the Jumbo Shrimp bullpen later in the frame. Wilson drove in four of Nashville's seven runs in the contest.
Game three of the series is set for Thursday at 7:05 p.m. with lefty Shawn Morimando (2-3, 5.19) is slated to start for Jacksonville, opposite Nashville right-hander Thomas Jankins (1-5, 7.05). Gates open at 6 p.m. for Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, featuring $2 (12 oz. draft) and $3 (24 oz. draft) Budweiser products on the left field berm canopy, Oasis concession stand, and right field bleachers.
It's also Military Appreciation Night, and the Jumbo Shrimp will provide free tickets (subject to availability) to all active, retired, veterans and former military members and their dependents. Complimentary ticket may be received in person at the Miller Electric Box Office in advance or the day of the game, subject to availability.
