Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wilmington, Del. - The Hudson Valley Renegades dropped a heartbreaker to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 7-5 on Saturday night at Frawley Stadium.
Chase Hampton turned in another fantastic start, allowing two runs on three hits in 5.1 innings, walking two and striking out 10. It was the second double-digit strikeout game of the season for Hampton, and his fourth start in his last five in which he struck out nine-or-more batters.
In the first game of his Minor League rehab assignment, Josh Breaux went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI while serving as the Designated Hitter.
The Renegades struck in the top of the first against Andrew Alvarez after back-to-back singles to start the game by Alexander Vargas and Aaron Palensky. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third, and another wild pitch scored Vargas from third for the game's first run.
Hudson Valley added another in the top of the second on a Palensky RBI single to take a 2-0 lead. Palensky finished the night 3-for-4 with a run scored, a double, an RBI, and a hit by pitch.
Wilmington tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Matt Suggs and Will Frizzell hit back-to-back home runs against Hampton, but the 'Gades wasted no time in responding. Antonio Gomez brought in Palensky with a sacrifice fly, and Breaux scored on a throwing error by shortstop Jordy Barley to grow the lead to 4-2.
The Blue Rocks rallied in the bottom of the seventh against Carlos Gomez, scoring four runs to take the lead. With runners on first and second and two outs, Jacob Young laced a two-run triple to right to tie the game at 4-4. The next batter, James Wood, blasted a two-run home run to give Wilmington a 6-4 advantage.
Leandro Emiliani added an insurance run in the ninth with a single off Harrison Cohen. Vargas led off the bottom of the ninth with a double and scored on a Breaux single off Todd Peterson to cut the deficit to 7-5, but that was all the 'Gades could muster.
Hudson Valley completes its series with Wilmington on Sunday night at Frawley Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6:15 on the Renegades Baseball Network. RHP Drew Thorpe (2-1, 3.55) gets the ball for the Renegades in the finale, while the Blue Rocks send RHP Jackson Tetreault (MiLB Rehab) to the bump.
Renegades Record: 26-18
