News Release
Willy brings home new Co-op chip
WINNIPEG (June 20, 2015) - There's no way to avoid this quarterback sack. Four gunslingers will do battle off the field as part of the new chip lineup exclusively at Co-op stores across Manitoba. Winnipeg Blue Bomber quarterback Drew Willy introduced Drew Dilly Chips at the grand opening of a Red River Co-op gas bar today. The new chips will headline the 2015 season of Co-op/Bombers Game Day Approved products. The Game Day Approved partnership provides a portion of sales to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
"Game Day Approved continues to provide excitement for football fans and Co-op shoppers across Western Canada,"Â said Vic Huard, Executive Vice -President of Strategy at Federated Co-operatives Limited, on behalf of the Cooperative Retailing System. "It's easy to support this initiative because it's fun, we have great partners and, most importantly, we share a common goal of being champions for healthy children and healthy families."
Willy will face off against Calgary Stampeders QB Bo Levi Mitchell and his Bo Levi's Shake 'N Bacon Chips, Edmonton Eskimos QB Mike Reilly and his Mike's Gridiron Garlic and Parmesan Chips, and Saskatchewan Roughriders QB Darian Durant and his Double D BBQ Chips. Co-op is your destination for game day food and gear, including specially packaged chocolate bars, bakery items, trail mix, autograph footballs, coolers and lawn chairs.
Bombers fans can also purchase specially priced game ticket vouchers at participating Co-op stores and go online to Ticketmaster.ca to redeem them. Buddy Two-Packs for $60 and Family Four-Packs for $125 will be available.
"The Bombers are incredibly proud to be part of such a great program. Partnering with Co-op in this way allows us to fulfill one of our most important mandates, giving back to the community," said Blue Bombers President and CEO Wade Miller. "And we are equally proud of our fans for embracing the program and doing their part to support the Children's Hospital Foundation as well."
Last year, in its first year as part of the expanded Game Day Approved program, the Co-op/Bombers partnership donated $25,000 to the Children's Hospital Foundation. A total of $65,000 has been raised in Saskatchewan since 2012, adding to Co-op's $1.1 million donation over five years to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
""Like the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the members of Co-op, our nurses, doctors and families are a part of team. A team that works hard to help sick and injured children in Manitoba", said Lawrence Prout, President and CEO of the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. "We are grateful for this partnership to help our team purchase the specialized equipment, and fund life-saving research and essential programs to help families and children during difficult times."
The Game Day Approved roster expanded in 2014 to not only include the Bombers, but also the Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Eskimos, and Saskatchewan Roughriders. Altogether, the four Game Day Approved partnerships raised $179,000 for children's hospital foundations in their respective markets.
