Willman Outstanding as Lunkers Defeat MoonDogs

June 19, 2011 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release

Lunkers starter Joe Willman would pitch six 1-2-3 innings and not give up a walk as the Lunkers defeated the Mankato MoonDogs 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Mills Field, splitting the two game series. Willman kept Mankato hitters off balance all day, recording seven strikeouts through eight innings pitched.

The Lunker offense came to life against Mankato pitcher Logan Taylor, who had shut out the Lunkers through six innings the week before.

Leading 2-0, the Lunkers would strike for three runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach. After Dan Olinger reached via a single, Christian Stringer bunted him over to 2nd base. After an Abrahamson walk, Casey Roche would single in Olinger from 2nd to give the Lunkers their third run. A fly ball from Jon Crist moved Abrahamson to third, and he would score on the Matt Hillsinger single. A Steven Brault single would score Casey Roche to give the Lunkers a 5-0 lead at the time.

Each team would add one more run on the game, with the Lunkers winning 6-1.

With the win, the Lunkers move to (11-6) on the season, one game behind the Mankato MoonDogs in the North Division, who hold a (12-5) record.

The Lunkers are back in action Monday night at home against the Duluth Huskies. Aaron Griffin gets the start for the Lunkers. First pitch is 7:05.
