
Williams, Walters lead Cats past X's 5-3

Cory Walters earned his 13th win of the season and Shawn Williams hit his first professional home run as the Cats downed Sioux City 5-3 in front of 4,425 fans Saturday night at LaGrave Field.
With the win, the Cats improved their second-half record to 27-13 and reduced their magic number to five in the second half.
With the game tied at three going to the bottom of the eighth, Carlos Sepulveda reached on a one-out single. The next batter Williams, hit a 2-1 pitch into the left-field bleachers for a two-run homer.
Walters then came out for the ninth and sat down the side in order, including a strikeout of the final batter, his season-high 12th strikeout of the year. Walters' third complete-game of the season saw him allow three runs on seven hits and walk no one.
All the Explorers runs came in the sixth inning as Jorge Moreno's two-run double got them on the scoreboard and Chris Grossman's single tied the game at three.
The Cats scored a run in the fourth on a Williams' RBI ground out in the fourth and added two runs in the fifth, highlighted by a Terence Green run-scoring single.
Explorer's starter Nate Holguin got no decision after permitting three runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched. Reliever JD Scholten (5-4) suffered the loss after giving up the Williams' eighth-inning long ball.
The Cats go for the three-game sweep of Sioux City on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Danny Valentin (4-1) goes for the Cats with Tom Lipari on the hill for the Explorers.
