July 31, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indians received six scoreless innings from Trevor Williams but were unable to maintain a slim lead, eventually falling to Norfolk, 4-1, on Sunday.
Willy Garcia put Indianapolis (55-54) in front in the second inning. Jason Rogers opened the inning with a base hit before Garcia picked up his team-leading 23rd double to score him.
The Tribe missed a chance to add on when Norfolk (43-65) ended the home turn at the dish in the fourth by throwing out Rogers at the plate.
Indy's Trevor Williams returned to his previous July form, working six shutout innings. He's exited his start after six scoreless frames in three of his last four outings and finished the month with a 0.98 ERA in six starts.
The Tides plated four runs in the seventh to put themselves in the driver's seat. Kelvin Marte and A.J. Schugel (0-1) were the men on the mound for the Indians as Norfolk rallied.
The Indians had a chance to chip away at the deficit in the seventh when they loaded the bases with one out, but a double play squelched the rally.
Richard Rodriguez (6-1) earned the win for the visitors.
The Tribe begins a pivotal four-game series on Monday at Columbus. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
