Bisons Come Back to Beat Chiefs Sunday

Buffalo, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped a third straight game to the Buffalo Bisons, 6-5, Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field. Lucas Giolito allowed four earned runs in five innings, with four walks and five strikeouts in his second start in Triple-A. Jason Martinson hit a grand slam for the Chiefs in the loss.

Syracuse (48-60) started the scoring in the first. With one out, the Chiefs loaded the bases against Chris Leroux when Brian Goodwin walked, Michael Taylor singled and Matt Skole walked. Martinson followed with a grand slam, his ninth home run of the season, to give the Chiefs an early 4-0 lead.

Buffalo (55-54) answered right back with three runs against Giolito in the first. Dalton Pompey led off with a single and scored on Ryan Goins' double. A batter later, Darrell Ceciliani hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Bisons took the lead in the third. Ceciliani singled with one one and Chris Colabello followed with a walk. After a flyout, Domonic Brown singled to right to bring home Ceciliani. The ball got under Ramsey's glove in right to allow Colabello to score on the error for a 5-4 Bisons lead.

The Chiefs manufactured a run in the fifth to tie the score. Martinson singled and moved to second on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt by Leroux. Martinson moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Jhonatan Solano to square the game at five.

The game stayed tied until the seventh. Pompey doubled against Koda Glover with one out and scored a batter later on Goins' single to give the Bisons a 6-5 lead.

The Chiefs did load the bases in the ninth against Ryan Tepera but did not score as the Bisons won the final three games of the four-game series.

The Chiefs are off Monday before opening a four-game, three-day series against the Bisons in Syracuse with a doubleheader Tuesday. Taylor Hill and Aaron Laffey are scheduled to start the doubleheader for the Chiefs. Casey Lawrence is slated to start game one of the doubleheader for the Bisons with game two's starter still to be announced. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
