Kansas City Brigade News Release

KANSAS CITY - Boo Williams had always made his football living as an offensive threat, playing tight end for the NFL's New Orleans Saints. It wasn't until he signed a free agent contract with the Brigade that he had to learn a defensive position. The rookie wide receiver/linebacker put his indoctrination to good use Saturday at the Philadelphia Soul as he was named the Arena Football League Ironman of the Week for his stellar two-way play.

Williams (6-4, 250, Arkansas) was more than a fill in at Jack linebacker against the Soul, playing significant minutes for starter Nick Ward, who moved to defensive back for Denario Smalls. Williams recorded three total tackles (two solo) and a key third quarter fumble recovery that allowed the Brigade to maintain a two-score lead.

He was even better on his natural side of the ball, catching eight passes for 68 yards with three touchdowns. A proven clutch performer this season, Williams caught two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, including a score with 52 seconds left that sealed the win. On the season he has 36 receptions for 363 yards with 11 touchdowns and has also recorded a rushing touchdown.

This is the Brigade's fourth AFL honor of the season and the first Ironman of the Week. Previously, Kenny McEntyre and Isaiah Trufant were named Defensive Players of the Week and Charles Frederick earned Rookie of the Month for March. The Brigade (5-4) faces the Utah Blaze in an American Conference showdown Saturday, May 12 at 7 p.m. at the Hangar.
