Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Riverhounds Development Academy (RDA) has hired Will Marshall to the full-time staff for the 2019-2020 season.
Marshall, a native of North Versailles, Pennsylvania, will become the assistant director of goalkeeping after being a member of the Goalkeeping Academy staff over the past few years.
Now taking on a larger role under the guidance of Director of Goalkeeping Hunter Gilstrap, Marshall will help manage the training curriculum and be a permanent fixture at RDA training sessions. In addition, Marshall will be present at ECNL home games and travel to selected events throughout the season.
"I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity to step into a larger coaching role with the Riverhounds Development Academy," Marshall said. "The RDA has been integral to my development as a player and as a coach over the years. I look forward to working with the goalkeepers on a more frequent basis and traveling with the ECNL teams."
Marshall will work with Gilstrap and T.J. Cherry in providing a platform in which all goalkeepers in both the RDA and Goalkeeper Training Academy can learn and develop. All three will work together to continue to raise the standard of goalkeepers who come through the program.
"We are always looking to improve all areas of our programming, and the goalkeeping department is no different," Academy Director Scott Gibson said. "Hunter does an exceptional job managing our goalkeepers and now will have Will on board to be a constant in training and at events. The preparation and mental aspect of the goalkeeper position is unique, and Will can manage pregame warmups, in-game management and coaching, and just as important provide feedback and reports to staff after games. It will be excellent for our RDA goalkeepers to build a rapport with Will throughout the season."
The East Allegheny High School graduate attended the University of Pittsburgh from 2014-2017 and transferred to West Chester University with one year remaining of collegiate eligibility. At West Chester, Marshall was a key component in leading the program to the 2018 NCAA Division II College Cup Final that took place in his hometown at Highmark Stadium.
In the near future, the RDA will release its entire coaching staff for the 2019-2020 season. Registration is now open for RDA tryouts at riverhounds.com/tryouts .
