
Wiley's Three Run Homer Leads Freedom to Victory

Joliet, IL - The Florence Freedom(4-4) evened up their three game series with the Joliet Slammers(4-4) with a 7-5 victory on Saturday night.
The Freedom jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Eric Groff. Edwin Padua added a sacrifice fly RBI in the second which broke a 1-1 tie. In the third inning, Byron Wiley and Jim Jacquot each drove in runs on doubles which gave the Freedom a 4-1 lead.
Nate Wilder of Joliet hit a three run homer in the fourth inning which gave the Slammers a 5-4 lead.
With the Freedom trailing 5-4 in the seventh inning, Wiley changed everything with one swing. Wiley belted a three run homer to right center to put the game away. Wiley finished the game by going 2-4 with 4 RBI's.
Corey Deighan(1-0) collected the win out of the bullpen for the Freedom pitching three scoreless innings while striking out five. Jorge Marban earned his first save of the year as he struck out three in the ninth, stranding the tying runners on base.
The Freedom and Slammers will play the rubber match of their three game series Sunday afternoon. RHP Jason Wilson (0-1,2.08) will square off against RHP Jacob Sanchez(0-1, 0.00) The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 2:50 pm on gospel1320.com.
