Wildcats Treat Hometown Fans With Victory

The Moncton Wildcats jumped out to any early two goal lead and didn't look back, defeating the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 5-2 Saturday Night at the Moncton Coliseum. Playing their first home game in three weeks the Cats got goals from Daniel Milan, Olivier D'Aoust, Alex Saulnier and Daniel Pettersson chipped in with two goals. Jessyko Bernard scored both goals for the Huskies. Shane Owen picked up the win in the Wildcats' net stopping 30 of 32 shots. Huskies goal Jeffrey Hoonan seemed to be fighting the puck and bit and took the loss, stopping 23of 28 shots.

Wildcats got on the board at 7:10 of the first period when Milan's shot from the point found its way through traffic and into the net. Eighteen seconds later D'Aoust put the Cats up 2-0. Pettersson's slapper from the left face off circle gave Moncton a three goal lead at 9:36 of the 1st. Bernard's powerplay goal at 17:47 cut into the Wildcats lead, Moncton took a 3-1 lead into the 1st intermission.

Alex Saulnier restored the Wildcats three goal lead on the powerplay at 4:34 of the 2nd period. The Wildcats had a couple of solid chances to put the game away but could not put the puck in the net. Rouyn-Noranda was rewarded another powerplay with six mintues remaining in the period and Bernard capitalized on the man advantage once again. After two period of play the score was 4-2 for Moncton.

The Huskies pushed hard to make the game interesting in the 3rd but the game's first star Shane Owen made a number of big saves and with 3:07 remaining Pettersson scored his 2nd of the night on the breakaway to put the game away.

With the man advantage Moncton was 1for 4 while Rouyn-Noranda was 2 for 4.

Wildcats return to action tomorrow afternoon when they welcome the league leading Saint John Sea Dogs to the Coliseum, game time is set for 4:00pm.
