
Wildcats Take Opener Vs. Sea Dogs

The Moncton Wildcats have downed the Saint John Seadogs in the opening game of the 2011-2012 QMJHL season after a 3-1 win at Harbour Station.
Wildcats open the scoring at 7:03 of the first period when Alex Saulnier pots home a power play goal. Allain Saulnier and James Melindy picking up assists. Allain Saulnier took a shot from a bad angle that Seadogs Goalie Charlie Millen saves and the rebound gets kicked out to Melindy who spots Alex Saulnier with a wide open cage and makes it 1-0 Wildcats. They would take the lead to the dressing room after 20 min. Shots on goal after the first were 12-8 for the Wildcats.
The second period continued to be the Alex Saulnier show as he takes a drop pass from his brother Allain as he steps over the line Alex tried to feed it back to Allain going to the net but the puck deflects off the stick of a Seadogs defenseman and the puck skips up over the shoulder of Millen and finds the back of the net at the 8:05 mark.
The Seadogs would get on the board would get on the board as Dannick Gauthier would hit Alexandre Beaureguard in the slot and he beats Roman Will five hole and it was a 2-1 game at 15:35. Stephen Anderson picks up the other assist on the Beaureguard goal. Shots in the Second period were 12-4 for Saint John.
Devon MacAusland would score the insurance marker with 10:00 minutes left in the third Marek Hrivik play give and go and MacAusland beats Millen five hole with a nice move to make it 3-1 for the Wildcats. The Seadogs would press late in the game but Roman Will stood his ground and turned aside all 14 shots directed his way to help the Cats to a 3-1 win.
Final shots on goal were 34-26 for the Seadogs. On the power play the Wildcats go 1-3 while Saint John was 0-6.
The Wildcats play their home opener on Friday as the play host to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles game time is 7:00PM at the Coliseum.
