Wildcats Snag Win over Sags

The Moncton Wildcats defeated the Chicoutimi Saguneens Saturday night in front of 6085 noisy fans at the Moncton Coliseum. In what was a duel of two goaltenders the Cats found away to come out on top. Chicoutimi goaltender Christopher Gibson turned in a solid performance stopping 25 of 27 shots for 2nd start honors. Cats goalie Steve Gleeson was even better performance, being named the games 1st star stopping 35 of 36 shots. Marek Hrivik and Brett Malone were the goal scorers for the Cats while Charles Hudon scored the loan goal for the Sags.

Both teams came out of the gate looking to set the tone, as a few good body checks were thrown and both teams had great scoring chances. Chicoutimi hit the post on their first shot of the game. Moncton opened the scoring 11:15 into the period when Hrivik took a nifty pass from Ted Stephens and slammed the puck home.

In the second period Chicoutimi lead 9-8 in shots and got the only goal. Charles Hudon scored from the point on a 4 on 3 powerplay to tie the game at two heading into the 3rd period.

Brett Malone got his 4th of the season 2:17 into the third period on an unassisted goal to put the Cats ahead 2-1. Malone's goal would round out the scoring as both goalies stood strong. Shots in the 3rd period were 15-10 for Chicoutimi.

The Wildcats return to action tomorrow afternoon when the host Sean Courtier and the Drummondville Volitgeurs at 4pm. Remember fans tomorrow is the Medavie Blue Cross Teddy Bear Toss, fans are asked to bring a teddy bear to the game and TOSS it onto the ice when the Wildcats score the first goal.
