Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
SAINT JOHN, N.B. - The Saint John Sea Dogs finished with three of a possible four points in their weekend series with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, picking up a point in a 3-2 overtime loss Saturday.
Ondrej Palat's 28th goal of the year gave Drummondville the extra point and put the only damper on the exciting Saturday night matchup, a hard-fought game played before 5,319 fans at Harbour Station.
Stanislav Galiev scored both goals for the Sea Dogs, who remained undefeated at home in regulation time at 21-0-1-1. Mathieu Corbeil made 27 saves in the Saint John goal.
Palat had two goals for Drummondville, while Sean Couturier added a goal and an assist. Domenic Graham stopped 30 shots for the win.
It was the first overtime loss of the year for the Sea Dogs, who fell to 35-5-1-2. Drummondville improved to 28-12-5-1
After tallying two goals in Friday's 7-4 win over Drummondville, Galiev picked right up where he left off. With the Sea Dogs trailing 1-0 at 1:58 of the second period, Galiev slipped into the slot and put home an Eric Gelinas rebound with laser-like accuracy to even the score. Sea Dogs coach Gerard Gallant left Galiev on for the next shift, and he was hauled down on a breakaway, setting up a dramatic penalty shot at 2:21.
Galiev's deke got Graham sliding to his left and he tucked in a one-handed backhander that trickled across the line for his 21st goal of the year.
Couturier made it 2-2 at 2:20 of the third, sending the game to overtime, where Palat potted the clincher 1:12 into the extra frame.
The Sea Dogs are on the road for the next four games, including three in three nights on the weekend, beginning in Baie-Comeau Friday, with visits to Chicoutimi Saturday, and Quebec Sunday.
Sea Dogs play-by-play voice Tim Roszell, who celebrated his birthday Saturday, will have the call on News 88.9 FM . Fans can also catch all the action online via the official TELUS QMJHL webcast (click HERE to order; charges apply).
Saint John's next home games are Jan. 29 and 30 against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. Tickets can be obtained by calling the Harbour Station box office at (506) 657-1234, or by visiting www.tickets.harbourstation.ca.
