Wildcats Home Opener Saturday Includes United Way "Cats for Kids" Night

ALBANY, GA- When the South Georgia Wildcats hit Cooper Tire Field Saturday night for the home opener against the Louisville Fire, there will be another large group of young 'Cats in attendance. Two hundred kids from Albany Middle School and Dougherty International Middle School will be cheering on the Wildcats as a part of the United Way "Cats for Kids" Night.

"Cats for Kids" is a collaborative project the United Way of Southwest Georgia, the Dougherty County School System, and the South Georgia Wildcats have been working on for months. One hundred kids from each of the six local middle schools will attend a Wildcats game throughout the 2008 season. The students are selected based on three criteria including school attendance, positive behavior, and grade improvement.

"This is one of the most rewarding programs of 2008 for the United Way," said Dwayne Myles, United Way President/CEO. "Our ultimate goal is to continue to motivate kids in a positive direction."

Opening night festivities will include Jasmine Green and Tiffany Williams, of the Dougherty High Chorale, performing the National Anthem. The Monroe High Air Force JROTC, under the leadership of Lt. Col. Ted Wright, will be presenting the colors. Dr. Sally Whatley, Dougherty County School System Superintendent, will be performing the Coin Toss while Dwayne Myles, United Way President/CEO, will deliver the Game Ball.
