Moncton Wildcats News Release

The Moncton Wildcats celebrated a record breaking season Monday night at their 13th annual Fans' Choice Awards. There were 11 awards given out. Again this year fans were given the opportunity to vote for the players they deemed worthy of the awards. Fan votes were made possible by the Times and Transcript.

Two players received three awards. Matt Eagles was awarded the Children's Wish Foundation Fans' Choice Award, Top Point Leader and Community Spirit.

Nicola Riopel was awarded Outstanding Athletic Scholastic, Outstanding Defensive Player and Most Valuable Player.

Scott Brannon was named Top Goal Scorer. He led the team with 34 goals during the regular season.

The Most Improved Player was chosen to be David Savard. Brandon Gormley was named as Rookie of the year.

The award for Unsung Hero was given to last season's MVP, Zach Sill.

The Cats' Commitment to Excellence award was created in the 2007-08 season to recognize a member of the Wildcats' Organization that was truly a star off the ice. This year the award went to team mascot, Wild Willie.

The Cats now turn their attention to playoffs. The first round of playoffs is set to kick-off on Friday March 20th when the Wildcats take on the Rocket. The Wildcats have home ice advantage which means the puck will drop at 7 p.m. at the Cage Friday night. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Coliseum box office at 857-4100.
