
Wildcats cap weekend with dramatic 3-2 victory

A pair of first period goals by captain Matt Eagles led the Moncton Wildcats to a nail biting 3-2 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes on Sunday afternoon.
Eagles scored his first goal at 7:56 of the opening frame, then following up with his second at 15:22.
Neither team was able to score in the middle frame. The excitement level started to build in the third when Tommy Tremblay scored a short-handed marker for Shawinigan at 1:30 to make it 2-1. The Wildcats restored the two goal margin a minute and seven seconds later with Simon Jodoin's ninth of the year on the power play. Shawinigan got to within one scoring their own power play goal at 10:56 but the Wildcats closed the door in the final half of the period.
Shots on goal favored the Cataractes 35-25. On the power play, the Wildcats went one for seven while Shawinigan was one for five.
Eagles got the nod as the games first star, Nicola Riopel with his 39th win of the year, was star number two. Maxime Macenauer of Shawinigan was the third star.
