Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, continued to find ways to win. The Windy City Thunderbolts pushed the first-place Wild Things into extra innings, but after a Jay Coakley sacrifice fly in the bottom of the tenth, Washington improved to 21-10 on the season and ran their franchise-record winning streak to 10 games with a 5-4 victory at Falconi Field Wednesday night.
After Windy City scored in the top of the second, the Wild Things took the lead in the bottom of the third thanks to Jack Headley's single that drove in two runs. Windy City retied the game in the fourth, but Washington opened an advantage in the sixth with RBI singles from Coakley and Bill Greenwell.
However, Windy City scored one in the eighth to cut the lead to 4-3, and in the top of the ninth, Brad Guglielmelli tied the game with a lead-off solo homerun over the leftfield fence, giving Washington's B.J. Borsa his second blown save of the season.
In extra innings though, Brian Stoecklein reached third base on an error by Windy City's right fielder and Coakley followed with his second RBI of the night, giving Washington a 5-4 victory.
B.J. Borsa (3-0) picked up the victory for the Wild Things. Starter Grant Dorn pitched six innings, allowed nine hits, two runs, and struck out five. For the Thunderbolts, B.J. Litchfield shouldered the loss despite giving up just one hit over 4 1/3 innings of work.
Headley paced Washington with two hits and two RBI. Headley has reached base in every game at Falconi Field this season. Windy City's Peanut Williams pushed his hitting streak to 26 games with two doubles.
