Evansville Otters News Release
In one of the most dominant performances of the season in the Frontier League, Grant Williams tossed a complete game, four-hitter as the Evansville Otters beat the Mid-Missouri Mavericks 1-0.
The only scoring in the game came in the fifth inning. Terrence McClain stretched a single into a double on a ball to the centerfielder. O. J. Garza followed with a single. The next batter, David Trujillo then hit a sacrifice fly, scoring McClain, giving the Otters the lone run of the contest for either side.
From the start, however, the night belonged to Williams who picked up his fifth win of the year making he and Joe Dooley from Gateway the only 5-0 pitchers in the league. Williams struck out eight of the first nine batters of the ballgame en route to his third complete game shutout of the season. Williams struck out 13 in the contest and reclaimed the league strikeout lead with 57 on the season.
In the finale of the series on Thursday, Evansville sends Andre Simpson to the mound. Simpson is tied with Williams and Dooley as the only five game winners in the league.
