Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, defeated the Evansville Otters 8-7 for their second series win this year.
Washington scored two runs in each of the first two innings by way of a two-run Brandon Ketron single in the first and sacrifice flies by shortstop Brett Grandstrand and designated hitter Lance Koenig in the second.
The Wild Things held a 4-2 lead heading into the fourth, and added four more runs to increase their lead to 8-2. Right fielder Mike Arbinger drew a bases loaded walk and third basemen Pat Peavey followed next with a double driving in three runs. The Otters responded with three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh, but the Wild Things held onto their lead, winning their second one-run game of the season.
Pitcher Pat Kohorst improved his record to 3-0 allowing five runs in five innings of work. Relievers Corey Ohalek and Stephen Spragg combined for two innings in relief while closer Jim Popp picked up his first save of the season by allowing only one hit over two innings.
With the win, the Washington moves their record to 6-9 and will travel to the 2005 Frontier League Champion Kalamazoo Kings for a three-game series over the weekend. The next home game for Washington will be Tuesday, June 13 against the Florence Freedom. The first 1000 fans will receive a special 5th Year figurine of current Wild Things outfielder Mike Arbinger courtesy of WJPA 95.3 FM.
