Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PAâ The Washington Wild Things used good pitching from their bullpen and timely hitting by L.J. Biernbaum to beat the Richmond Roosters 3-2.
The Roosters (6-14) started the scoring in the first inning when former Wild Thing Chris Tuttle scored on Drew Miller's single to right-field.
Washington (11-9) answered in the third, scoring twice to take the lead. Jack Headley led off with a single to left-field and Brian Stoecklein doubled to deep center driving him in. Biernbaum singled to score Stoecklein.
Neither team scored until the top of the eighth when Richmond's Kevin Brown hit a solo home run off B.J. Borsa to tie the game at two. Borsa (3-0) rebounded and pitched the final 2 1/3 innings giving up one run on three hits.
In the top of the tenth, Mike Arbinger led off with a walk and scored from first base when Biernbaum singled to the right-field wall. Richmond's Josh Neitz (0-5) took the loss.
Both teams made numerous pitching changes after their starters exited early. Richmond used six relievers following starter Steve Strohm after he went 2 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits.
Jory Coughenour started for the Wild Things, but left due to an unspecified injury. Coughenour struck out four in only two innings of work, giving up one run on three hits.
