Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced two players, Justin Gregula and Patrick Sadler will be in the classroom Friday(March 2, 2007), participating in the Read Across America Program.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the NEA's program, Read Across America that promotes literacy.

Wild Things' pitcher Patrick Sadler will be in the Canon McMillan School District at South Central Elementary at 12:30 p.m. Friday to read to first graders. Sadler is a graduate of Trinity High School and California University of Pennsylvania.

Infielder Just Gregula, who graduated from Old Dominion University, is the first graduate of Washington High School to sign with the Wild Things; he will visit Trinity North Elementary to read to the second graders at 9:00 a.m. Friday.

The National Education Association (NEA) annually sponsors Read Across America. The program focuses the country's attention on how important it is to motivate children to read in addition to helping them master basic skills.

NEA launched the Read Across America program in 1997. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss, who epitomizes a love of learning. Dr. Seuss's use of rhyme makes his books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful.

The Wild Things, who play in the Independent Frontier League of professional baseball, open the 2007 season on May 23rd at home when they welcome the league's newest team, the Slippery Rock Sliders, to Washington. Season and group ticket packages are available. Check the Wild Things website (www.washingtonwildthings.com) for the latest news and schedule information.
