"Super Joe" Charboneau Hired As Paints' Hitting Coach

The Chillicothe Paints' organization is very pleased to announce the hiring of Joe Charboneau as the team's hitting coach for the 2007 season.
Charboneau debuted in the Major Leagues with the Cleveland Indians in 1980 and was voted the American League Rookie of the Year for his outstanding rookie performance. He hit .289 with 23 home runs and 84 RBI. In his first Major League game, Joe hit a single, double, and a 3-run home run.
Joe was an instant hit with the Indian fans and was quickly labeled, "Super Joe". A song was written about him that moved to number three on the local charts. The song was entitled "Go Joe Charboneau."
Unfortunately, Charboneau was hit with severe injuries at the end of his rookie season and during spring training of his sophomore campaign in 1981. Despite a lot of rehabilitation work for his injuries, he never fully recovered and was released by Cleveland in 1983.
Charboneau became a Minor League hitting instructor. Among his coaching jobs, Joe has coached in the Frontier League with the Canton Crocodiles and Washington Wild Things. He also had a role in the popular baseball movie, "The Natural", playing a teammate of Roy Hobbs.
Charboneau also operates the "Super Joe's Baseball and Softball Academy" in Painesville, Ohio.
"I have worked a lot with Joe and as far as I'm concerned, I've never seen a better hitting coach," commented Paints' first-year manager, Mark Mason. "He's also a great person, and I think our players and fans are really going to love having Joe on our staff."
