
Wild Things Outlast Otters

Washington, PAâ The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, gave the Evansville Otters a taste of their own medicine.
On Monday night, Evansville used the eighth inning to take the lead and hold on to a one-run victory. Tuesday night, it was Washington's turn.
Trailing 4-3 in the top of the eighth, Washington's Brian Stoecklein doubled to lead off the inning, and scored on L.J. Biernbaum's RBI single to tie the game at four. Jay Coakley then scored on an Evansville error to put the Wild Things ahead for good and gave them an 8-4 win that moved their record to 9-8 on the season.
After Jack Headley scored in the first, Evansville tied the game in the third. But Biernbaum's single in the fourth to retake the lead 2-1. Evansville scored a pair in the bottom of the inning but Coakley's second homerun of the season tied the game in the sixth.
Washington took the lead in the eighth and blew open the game with a three-run ninth inning that included RBI hits from Stoecklein and Wes Rynders.
The game changed hands a total of four times before the Wild Things broke open the game in the ninth. B.J. Borsa picked up his third win of the season by pitching the final 1 1/3 innings. Washington's starter, Matt McDonnell, gave up three runs and seven hits over five innings. Evansville's A.J. Ampi took the loss.
Biernbaum led the Wild Things offensively with three hits and two RBI. Jay Coakely had a single and homerun, and scored three times.
The series finale is schedule for Tuesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. in Evansville. Washington returns home on Wednesday, June 9, to take on Richmond. The game will start at 7:05 p.m.
