Evansville Otters News Release
Evansville, IN â After taking a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Otters allowed five runs in the eighth and ninth innings, losing to the Washington Wild Things 8-4.
After twice battling from behind at 1-0 and 2-1, the Otters took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth innings. Washington tied it in the fifth, which is where it would stay until the bottom of the seventh, when with O. J. Garza pinch running on second, Brett McCutchan blasted a double to give the Otters a 4-3 lead.
The normally reliable Otters bullpen was unable to hold the advantage, however, allowing five runs (three earned) over the final two innings giving Washington the win.
A. J. Ampi suffered the loss for Evansville, falling to 1-2 on the season allowing his first earned run in 2004. Brendon Davis picked up his first win of the year for the Wild Things.
The Otters send Heath Heiberger to the mound in the finale of the series tomorrow, one of two day games the Otters will play in 2004. The game will start at 12:05. Ryan Ewin will go for Washington.
