Rockford, IL– Jesen Merle pitched Rockford out of a seventh-inning jam and helped the Rockford RiverHawks hold on to a 6-4 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts at Marinelli Field.

The ThunderBolts loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, forcing Rockford starter Josh Tomsu from the game. Merle entered and struck out Alph Coleman on three pitches. Coleman swung at a slider more than a foot outside for the third strike.

Tomsu (2-0) was touched for three runs in the second inning, two on Brian Baker's fourth home run, a shot over the center-field wall.

Rockford scored single runs in the first and second innings, then scored twice in the fifth inning to retake the lead. Ryan Larson scored on an error, then Dan Floyd scored on Doug Schutt's groundout to give the ‘Hawks a 4-3 lead.

Josh Latimer gave up an unearned run in the ninth, but held on for his fourth save.

The rubber match of the three-game series and the finale of the six-game homestand is at 7:05 p.m. on a Two-For Tuesday. Hot dogs and soft drinks are both priced at two for $2.

All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 – the Hub and at the team website. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 12th season.
