
Wild Things Make 2007 Roster Changes

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, lost two players in the Frontier League's Expansion Draft, but announced the signing of a pitcher and infielder.
Andy Hudak, who was the first position player (fifth player overall) selected in the draft, will join The Southern Illinois Miners. The Ohio native, who played first base for the Wild Things in 2005 and 2006 and had ten home runs and 44 RBI with a .240 batting average for Washington during 2006.
Slippery Rock then selected INF Jason Bucholtz with the twelfth pick. The second baseman, who came to the Wild Things out of Ball State University scored 33 runs on 57 hits and 34 RBI with a .257 batting average in 68 games last season for Washington.
Following the draft, the Wild Things announced the signing of two new players for 2007.
RHP Jeff Michael, posted a 4-0 record while striking out 23 and allowing only one home run last season at Ball State University. He was a medical red-shirt during the 2005 season, following a 2-2 record with a 4.05 ERA in 40 innings during the 2004 season. "Jeff is reliever who can command the zone with two pitches, a sinker and a slider; he will compete for a spot in the bullpen," said Wild Things' field manager John Massarelli.
The Wild Things also signed INF Ben Ramsey who played third base for Madonna (MI) University. Ramsey was named first team NAIA All-American and the NAIA Region VIII baseball player of the year in 2006. The Englewood, Ohio native led Madonna in 10 offensive categories including batting average (.379), home runs (13), and RBI (64).
"Ben Ramsey is an athletic kid with some tools," added Massarelli. "He will compete this spring for a spot on our roster."
In other moves the Wild Things announced that C Matt Bok, OF Chris Carter, and LHP Matt Squires have all aged-out and will not be on the Washington roster in 2007. Additionally the Wild Things released OF Shane Winkler, who appeared in 13 games last season.
Chris Carter finished third in the league in batting with a .314 average, and he was tied for fourth in the league in triples. LHP Matt Squires (10-5) lead the team in wins and was tied for second place in the league in shutouts. Bok returned to the Wild Things in 2006 after playing with the team in 2004.
