Washington, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, fell 6-1 to the Oakland County Cruisers Tuesday night. The Wild Things took the series 2-1.

With the win, the Cruisers avoided the sweep. The scoring started early with a lead-off double by Pace followed by a sacrifice and RBI groundout. They added two two-run homeruns in the fourth by Maunus and Fernandez. After giving up a triple by the next batter, starting pitcher Tim Smith got out of the jam with a strikeout and a fly out.

Smith pitched four innings, allowing eight hits and five runs. The Wild Things' bullpen had a strong performance with Matt Viera and Chris Bennett combining for five innings pitched and only allowing one unearned run in the seventh and striking out seven.

Oakland County starting pitcher Nolan Shaffer pitched two and two-thirds innings of no hit ball before he was taken out due to an injury. The Wild Things bats woke up after that, getting seven hits during the rest of the game, but were unable to get more than one run on the board. A walk followed by two singles in the sixth inning left the bases loaded for Jacob Dempsey. He walked, bringing in the Wild Things lone run of the game.

New catcher Jared Dyer pinch-hit in the ninth inning, singling for his first professional hit.
