Washington Wild Things News Release

WASHINGTON, PA-The Washington Wild Things and Southern Illinois Miners found themselves at the mercy of Mother Nature on Thursday, June 18, as the inclement weather caused the contest to be shortened to six innings. The Miners were able to best Washington on the night by a final score of 3-2. Adam Lopez earned the mound win, while Kyle Helisek suffered the defeat in his first start back from the disabled list.

The Miners were able to take the lead in the top of the third when shortstop Niko Vasquez got the best of a 1-2 pitch from Helisek, knocking a three-run home run. Washington inched within two in the latter half of the inning when shortstop Austin Wobrock, who led off the at bat with a single, scored on base knock from second baseman Sam Mende. The duo of Wobrock and Mende cashed in again in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 3-2 ballgame.

After a quick sixth inning, the impending rainstorms arrived at CONSOL Energy Park, delaying the contest for one hour and 21 minutes until the umpires made the call.

Due to the shortened contest, fans can exchange their tickets from tonight's game for any future Washington game this season. The Wild Things will play next on Friday, June 19 when they play host to the Frontier Greys. For tickets, call the Wild Things front office at 724-250-9555 or visit www.washingtonwildthings.com.
