Washington Wild Things News Release

WASHINGTON, PA - On Breast Cancer Awareness Night, the Washington Wild Things took on the Normal CornBelters in an East vs West nail biter. This Saturday night matchup, and game two of a three game series, was highlighted by tremendous pitching from both starters and a walk-off from the Wild Things that elated the home crowd. The Wild Things won 2-1.

In a night where runs were hard to find, it took until the fourth inning for the first runner to cross home plate. In his return from the DL, Washington designated hitter C.J. Beatty broke the scoreless tie with a fielder's choice RBI that sent second baseman Matt Peters home. The Wild Things continued to battle the rest of the way but, it took until an exciting bottom of the ninth inning to score another run that proved to be the difference maker.

The CornBelters were able to stay in the game due to a seventh inning double from left fielder Sam Judah that tied it up 1-1. Following the run, pitcher Matt Sergey exited, after pitching a solid game with 6.1 innings and eight strikeouts. Normal's starter, Michael Schweiss also pitched into the seventh inning.

After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the ninth inning, thanks to a strong outing from their bullpen, the Wild Things had the bases loaded for center fielder Danny Poma. Poma crushed a line drive at the third baseman who could not corral the ball, ultimately scoring the winning run.

The Wild Things took game two in walk-off fashion 2-1 with Johnathon Kountis earning the win and Marc Rutledge earning the loss.
