Florence, Ky. - One All-Star singled home another as Michael Parker scored Chris Sidick in the top of the ninth to help the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, recover from a squandered 5-1 lead and beat the Florence Freedom 6-5 at Champion Windows Field.

The teams went into the game headed in different directions. The Wild Things won their last game and won six of their last ten games while Florence carried a two-game losing streak and were 4-6 in their last ten.

Big innings characterized the scoring for both teams. Washington recorded three hits and three runs in the fourth inning and two hits, including Joel Hartman's first home run, and two runs in the sixth. Florence scored four times in the seventh to tie the game at five.

Washington starter Billy Muldowney picked up his second no-decision in two starts for the Wild Things, pitching a solid five innings, allowing six hits and one run. He walked one and struck out three.

The right-hander pitched out of several jams and minimized damaged through the first three innings. Florence left five men on base and Muldowney gave up five hits through the first three frames, but the Freedom only scored one run on a Jimmy Baker sacrifice fly to right, scoring Stephen Shults.

Shults, who carried a league-leading .373 average and 12 home runs into the game, made his presence felt in the seventh with a three-run home run. He finished with two hits, two runs and three RBIs.

Florence starter Cameron Aspaas allowed three hits in the top of the fourth after allowing only one through the first three innings. Eric Stephens and Alan Robbins singled and Mark McGonigle doubled to propel the Wild Things to a three-run inning and a 3-1 lead. McGonigle has recorded 16 hits and scored ten runs in his last ten games, posting a .390 average in that span.

Aspaas left the game in the sixth after allowing five runs on six hits and four walks in 5.2 innings.

Joel Hartman extended the lead in the sixth with a two-run home run, his first of the season. Hartman carried a .200 average into the game with only eight hits and four RBIs in 40 at-bats.

Eryk McConnell pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his ninth save. Florence left ten men on base in the game.

The Wild Things continue their three-game set with Florence tomorrow night from Champion Windows Field at 7:05 p.m. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:55 p.m. on WJPA 95.3 FM. The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park Friday, July 16, for a three-game series with the Oakland County Cruisers followed by another three-game series with the Windy City Thunderbolts.
