Wenatchee Wild News Release

BISMARCK, N.D. - The Wenatchee Wild fell into an early 2-0 hole Saturday against the Bismarck Bobcats, then dug themselves out for a 3-2 win at the VFW Sports Center in Bismarck, N.D. With the win the Wild remained perfect on the season, increasing their record to 8-0.

Bismarck came out of the gate hot and led 2-0 three minutes and 14 seconds into the first period behind even-strength markers by Daniel Kovar and Shane Omdahl. The Wild cut the Bobcats' lead in half with 8:54 remaining in the first stanza when Chris Kerr (Penticton, British Columbia) notched his third goal of the series on a top shelf wrister from the bottom of the far faceoff circle. Tyler Rostenkowski (Bloomingdale, Ill.) advanced the puck to Kerr after the Bobcats committed a turnover in the neutral zone.

The second period was pivotal in Wenatchee's comeback. After killing more than a minute of 2-man penalty-kill time early in the frame, the Wild knotted the score 2-2 during a power play of their own when Evan Schmidbauer (Surrey, British Columbia) scored from the slot off a Trace Redmond (McKinney, Texas) pass from the goal line. Tyle Bruneteau (Omaha, Neb.) also assisted.

Jono Davis (La Verne, Calif.) gave the Wild their first lead of the game with 3:50 remaining before the second intermission. Entering the zone quickly down the left wing, Davis beat Bryan Nies with a well-placed shot to the short side of the cage for what would eventually count as the game-winning goal. Chris Diver (Wilmington, Del.) assisted.

Wild goalie Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas) stopped all 17 shots he faced in nearly 57 minutes of relief work to improve his record to 5-0 on the 2012-13 campaign. Nies made 20 saves on 23 shots for the Bobcats.

Wenatchee scored one power-play goal on five chances while Bismarck went 0-for-6 on its chances.

The Wild (8-0) will make their first trip of the season to Alaska this week. Up first will be a 3-game series against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs this weekend (Oct. 5-7). Friday's game will begin at 9:15 p.m. while Saturday's game is slated for an 8:30 p.m. start. Sunday's game will face off at 6 p.m.
