Wenatchee Wild News Release
BISMARCK, N.D. - Tied 1-1 early in the third period Friday, it appeared as though the Bismarck Bobcats were going to have a tremendous opportunity to score a go-ahead goal on the Wenatchee Wild. It turns out the Wild actually had the upper hand. Taking advantage of a pair of turnovers, the Wild scored two short-handed goals during Bismarck's power play and held on down the stretch for a 3-1 win at the VFW Sports Center in Bismarck, N.D.
Wenatchee, one of only two remaining undefeated NAHL teams, improved to 7-0 with Friday's win. The Wild will try for an eighth straight win Saturday against the Bobcats. Faceoff is at 5:15 p.m. For a small fee, fans can watch all the action live by logging on to www.FASTHockey.com.
Bobcat Joe Giordano drew first blood near the middle of the first frame Friday when he scored on a well-placed high wrist shot from the near wall. Giordano's goal was aided by a perfect screen in front of Wild goaltender Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas) and assisted by Adam Knochenmus and Jeremy O'Keefe.
The Wild tied up the contest, 1-1, two minutes and three seconds into the second period when Chris Kerr (Penticton, British Columbia) knocked in a rebound off Dylan Abood's (Centennial, Colo.) shot from the point during a man-advantage. Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) also assisted.
Wenatchee's first short-handed goal was sparked on a Bismarck turnover at the Wild blue line. A 3-on-2 ensued and Kerr finished off the play by tapping in his second marker of the contest.
Moments later, Jono Davis (La Verne, Calif.) scored Wenatchee's second straight shorty when he picked off a break-out pass at the middle of the Bobcat blue line and buried a 5-hole shot on a breakaway. Davis, the Wild's leader in points and plus/minus rating, was named the NAHL West Division Second Star of the Week Monday.
Nichols, who was named one of the West Division's Honorable Mention Stars of the Week Monday, allowed just one goal on a screen in thefirst period.
Kerr led the Wild with two goals.
