Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Corpus Christi IceRays were even with Topeka in the second period, however, dropped the final game of the weekend series to the Roadrunners 3-1 in front of almost 4,000 fans inside the American Bank Center.
Topeka was forced to kill a penalty early in the game, but it was the team a man down who converted. Dan Dupell broke free on a breakaway and was pulled down resulting in a penalty shot. At the 5:41 mark of the first period, Dupell back-handed the puck past Dillion Kelley in net for the IceRays to give his squad a 1-0 lead.
Corpus tied it up in the second, and it was Eric Purcell who recorded his first tally of the year. A rebound ended up on the blade of Purcell at the hash marks who rifled it top shelf knotting the game up at one a piece.
Late in the second, with under a minute to go, Topeka regained the lead when Sean Gaffney snapped a rebound past Kelley for a 2-1 advantage heading into the second intermission.
Corpus Christi got into penalty trouble late in regulation and it resulted in a power-play goal for the Roadrunners. Kyle Sharkey picked up his 4th goal in two games giving Topeka a 3-1 lead.
Kelley stopped 19 of 22 shots in the loss.
The IceRays are home this Thursday and Friday night as they take on the Texas Tornado. Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on Sportsjuice.com, the TuneIn Radio APP, and fasthockey.com.
