Chicago Express News Release

Elmira, NY - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, earned their fifth-straight victory on the backs of D Scott Wietecha and G Peter Mannino, beating the Jackals 2-1 at First Arena on Saturday Night.

After a scoreless first period, D Scott Wietecha grabbed the lead for the Express early in the second frame. Wietecha held the puck along the right point and fired a shot off the goalpost and into the back of the net, putting Chicago up 1-0 1:35 into the second period. Wietecha struck again, after a clean faceoff win on the power play and a quick pass from D Darcy Campbell set up a one-time for Wietecha, knocking it home at 14:59. The Express had seven full power play chances after the second period, and held Elmira to just one.

Penalties came the other way in the third period, as Elmira had four power play chances, including two 5-on-3 opportunities. The long goal came on a Jackals penalty shot, as F Dustin Gazley buried his chance with 8:05 left, making the score 2-1. G Peter Mannino and the Express penalty kill stood strong, as Chicago kept the Jackals off the board for the remainder of the period and collected their fifth straight win, 2-1 over Elmira. G Peter Mannino earned second star honors, stopping 34 of 35 shots.
