Reading Rallies for 5-4 Overtime Victory

ESTERO, FL- Dale Mitchell scored a goal and added 2 assists to help carry the Reading Royals to a 5-4 come from behind victory over the Florida Everblades in overtime on Saturday night at Germain Arena.

Both teams started the first period with strong offensive showings as both teams scored two goals. Reading opened up the scoring, when Kenny Ryan intercepted a pass in the Everblades defensive zone and brought it into the crease where he put the puck into the back of the net past Florida goalie Shane Owen.

The Everblades answered back taking advantage of the powerplay, as Mathieu Roy won the battle in the crease with reading goalie Jussi Rynnas putting the puck in the net, tying the game at one.

Just two minutes later, Reading would retake the lead when the Everblades were two skaters down. The goal came when Casey Haines found dale Mitchell alone in the left side circle, whose wrist shot would get past Owen giving the Royals a 2-1 lead.

Florida refused to back down and capitalized on another Reading penalty when David Rutherford received a pass from McNicoll in the slot and fried a wrist shot to tie the game again at two.

Florida continued to make the most out of Reading's penalties scoring a third powerplay goal in the second period. Ryan McGinnis snapped a shot from the point toward the net, which was redirected in front by Roy past Rynnas for the goal. The goal was the second of the game for Roy.

Florida did not allow another period to end in a tie as Rylan Galiardi sent a pass through the crease to Brayden Irwin whose wrist shot beat Rynnas giving verblades a 4-3 lead going into the second intermission.

It appeared as if the Everblades would escape with a 4-3 win. The Everblades received a late power play opportunity with nearly two minutes remaining. However, it would be the Royals who took advantage of the opportunity. Denny Urban broke out of his own end and skate the puck into the Florida end. Urban wristed a shot from the slot which beat Owen tying the game at four with 1:16 remaining in regulation.

In overtime, Yannick Tifu forced a turnover in the Everblades defensive zone and led a 2-on-1 rush toward the net. Tifu called his own number and fired a shot past Owen just 1:03 into overtime to seal 5-4 come from behind victory.

Jussi Rynnas earns the wins stopping 32 of 36 shot while Shane Owen takes the loss stopping 17 of 22 shots.

Prior to the game the Everblades honored Jenna Bender, who entered Germain Arena as the 3-millionth Everblades fan in the team's history. Bender and her family spent the evening in a luxury suite, while also receive a commemorative 3-Millionth Fan Jersey.

The Everblades will now travel to Gwinnett to take on the Gladiators on Thursday, February 9 at 7:35 p.m. The Blades next home game is Wednesday, February 15 against the South Carolina Stingrays beginning at 7:35 p.m. Fans can enjoy $2 drafts, wines, and hot dogs all night long.
