Frisco RoughRiders News Release

Joe Wieland's dominant start propelled the RoughRiders to a 6-1 win over first-place San Antonio Tuesday night at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium.

Wieland (2-0) held the Missions to one run on two hits in seven innings, the longest start of his Double-A career. The right-hander whiffed seven in an effort that helped push the RoughRiders (54-40, 14-10) within one game of the Missions for the top spot in the Texas League South's second half standings. After Wieland escaped the first inning with the bases loaded, the right-hander set down 15 straight Missions. Andy Parrino's solo home run was the only blemish against Wieland, and it snapped that hitless streak for San Antonio (64-30, 15-9).

Frisco's offense provided Wieland with plenty of support. Tommy Mendoncaput the 'Riders on the board with a two-out solo home run in the first, his 17th homer of the year. Two innings later, Renny Osuna chased home a run with a single. In the fourth, Engel Beltre notched an RBI groundout.

Davis Stoneburner provided the RoughRiders' biggest blast, a two-run homer to left that gave the 'Riders a 5-0 advantage. The 'Riders later added an unearned run on a Mitch Hilligoss RBI single in the eighth.

Tyler Tufts and Tanner Scheppers posted a perfect eighth and ninth, respectively. In all, Frisco pitching set down the Missions in order in all but two innings.

With the series even at one apiece, the 'Riders and Missions will play game three Wednesday night at 7:05. Left-hander Richard Bleier will start for the RoughRiders, and he will oppose San Diego's top prospect, righty Casey Kelly. Pre-game coverage along the RoughRiders Baseball Network begins at 6:35.

QUICK HITS: The game started at 8:06 after a 61-minute rain delay...Wieland has worked five or more innings in all five of his starts with the RoughRiders, and he has struck out five or more men in four of those contests...Hilligoss, Osuna and Jose Ruiz all had multi-hit efforts for the RoughRiders.
